Top 3 Historic Sites in St Augustine
Almost all vacations to St Augustine are based around history. With so much to see how do you decide where to start? That’s where we come in! Below are the top 3 must visit historic sites in St Augustine:
1. Castillo de San Marcos- There is now way anyone can resist visiting the Castillo. From the street it’s a marvel and getting in it is a must. Built in the 1600s the Castillo de San Marcos is the largest and oldest stone masonry fort in the US.
2. Lightner Museum- This attraction is house in the old Alcazar Hotel, one of Henry Flagler’s developments. The building itself is a must see historic site but the antiques housed inside are even more exciting. Nick named the Florida Smithsonian museum goers will enjoy a wide range of exhibits with many being donated by Flagler himself.
3. Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse- Built in the early 1700s this historic site is the oldest schoolhouse in the country. Although it won’t take long to see it is worth making a visit. Located on the north end of St George Street you are bound to run into it so slow down and take a gander.
